Suspect with alleged ties to TTP arrested in Karachi

In a joint raid of police and security forces in Karachi's Gizri area, a man allegedly involved in terrorist activities of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan was arrested, Aaj News reported on Wednesday.

The report, quoting SSP South Aijaz Ahmed, stated that the alleged terrorist Sher Daraz had confessed to his involvement in multiple attacks including on law-enforcement.

As per the report, police stated it recovered weapons, bullets and hand grenades from the alleged terrorist's possession. "Sher Daraz also confessed to working with five major terrorist commanders of the banned TTP," it added.

A month-long ceasefire agreement was reached between the TTP and the federal government in November last year under the aegis of the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan. However, the banned group declined to extend the ceasefire, accusing the officials of failing to honour the agreement reached between them.

Following the TTP's refusal to extend the ceasefire, a large number of terrorist attacks were reported across the country, especially in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's tribal areas as well as in the federal capital.

Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed written letters to chief secretaries and inspector generals of police asking them to stay alert regarding law and order situation in the country as the "TTP had increased the number of terrorist attacks in the country".
