Numbers of critical Covid-19 patients surpass 1,000 mark

As the intensity of the fifth wave of Covid-19 continues across the country, number of patients critically affected by the virus surpassed the 1,000 mark, on Saturday, according to National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data.

At least 1,055 Covid-19 patients are on critical care across the country as 94 new infection cases were added to the category during the last 24 hours. The figure stood at 961 on Friday.

Out of 58,902 virus tests conducted during the last 24 hours, 6,540 tested positive coming to a rate of 11.10 per cent across the country.

With 12 new deaths, the total fatalities reached the 29,077 mark.

According to the NCOC data, more than 0.47 million people have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 during the last 24 hours making at least 78.86 million people across the country.

Imposing new curbs to contain Covid-19, the NCOC on Friday announced closure of educational institutions in areas that had a high-rate of virus cases for a week.

According to the new directives issued by the Covid-19 monitoring Centre, only vaccinated people will be allowed to pray in mosques and other places of worship and they must be masked the whole time.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Friday closed a dozen educational institutes following detection of Covid-19 cases as the federal capital reported the highest number of coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours when compared with previous data from the territory, reported Business Recorder.
