Lahore court extends pre-arrest bail for Shehbaz, Hamza in money laundering case

The special court in Lahore on Saturday extended the pre-arrest bail till Oct 30 for PML-N leaders Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza in the money laundering case.

The court had last granted them two weeks bail on Sep 25.

The leader of the opposition and Hamza face Rs25 billion money laundering charges in the sugar scandal case.

They were booked by the Federal Investigation Agency in November 2020.

Shehbaz is alleged to aid and abet his sons Hamza and Salman in securing wealth beyond their known sources of income.

In Saturday's hearing, the judge noted how the FIA asked for time for quite a while given that it was filed in 2020.

The Sharif's lawyer Amjad Pervez said according to the law, it should take 14 days to wrap up the case but "the FIA has spent 11 months investigating the case."

The lawyer for the FIA said they need time to "check the transactions" as it was a major case.

The court fixed the date for the next hearing as October 30 as Shehbaz requested the time so he may attend National Assembly hearings.
