Haider Ali becomes first Pakistani to win gold at Tokyo Paralympics

Haider Ali became the first ever Pakistani on Friday to win a gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in the discus throw event.

He beat his own personal record with a throw measuring 55.26m. He beat second place thrower Mykola Zhabnyak from Ukraine by three meters.

People took to Twitter to share their pride for the athlete.

Ali was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and has been participating in athletic competitions for different abled persons. He has won a silver medal in a competition in Dubai in 2019, a bronze medal in 2016 and also participated in the 2008 Paralympics where he won a silver medal in the long jump.

Apart from Friday's gold, Haider Ali has won peoples hearts as evidenced by the messages of love on Twitter.
