Prime Minister Imran Khan's candidate Abdul Qayyum Niazi was elected the 13th Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
He received 33 votes compared to 15 votes of Chaudhry Lateef Akbar the opposition parties PPP and PML-N's joint candidate.
Niazi was in the running and had been interviewed as one of the candidates along with Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, Barrister Sultan Mehmood, Khawaja Farooq and Azhar Sadiq.
Niazi is also the central joint secretary of the PTI.
Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that Khan made the decision after "considerable consultations and suggestions".
The PTI emerged victorious in the July 25 elections in AJK and has 32 elected members.
