A man named as Zakir by the police has been arrested for the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Korangi according to DIG Police East Saqib Ismail.
Ismail added the man would undergo DNA test to ascertain his involvement.
According to a report on Aaj TV, the man charged with the crime said he took the girl in his rickshaw, consumed drugs and raped her in the rickshaw. He later dumped her in a garbage dump and planned to flee with his family to Multan but was apprehended.
On Friday Sindh Governor Imran Ismail had announced the arrest but said they would reveal the man's name once they'd completed the DNA testing but the police officer gave the name to media outlets.
He had gone to meet the girl's family in Korangi and spoke to the media briefly, saying he stood with the family in this terrible hour saying "was their government’s responsibility to eliminate fear among the public owing to such frequent incidents."
According to various social media accounts, the young girl went missing on Wednesday and her body was found on at a garbage dump in Zaman Park after the family searched the neighborhood for eight hours.
