Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Atta Tarar and three party supporters were granted interim bail by a court in Gujranwala on Monday, according to Tarar's counsel.
Tarar was arrested on Sunday during polling in AJK when he went to Alipur Chatta to get some detained party workers released, according to PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurganzeb. She has alleged rigging and violence on the part of the ruling party.
She tweeted a photo of Tarar in jail on Sunday.
After receiving bail, Tarar told reporters he believed he was arrested on the orders of the prime minister as well as Punjab's principal secretary to chief minister, Tahir Khursheed.
He said only he and his party workers were arrested last night after a clash with PTI workers, saying this amounted to political victimization.
The police said Tarar and his supporters were arrested for attacking policemen stationed outside Alipur Chatta police station.
Maryam Nawaz tweeted her condemnation of Tarrar's arrest, saying it showed the prime minister was in panic mode.
