Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday expressed grief over the killing of a Canadian Muslim family of Pakistani origin an anti-Islamic hate crime.
Taking to Twitter, the premier said the incident was a reflection of growing Islamophobia in the West:
"[I am] saddened to learn of the killing of a Muslim Pakistani-origin Canadian family in London, Ontario. This condemnable act of terrorism reveals the growing Islamophobia in Western countries. Islamophobia needs to be countered holistically by the international community."
Four members of a Canadian Muslim family were killed on Sunday when a pickup truck jumped the curb and ran them over. The 20-year-old white male driver fled the scene, however, was arrested by the police the same day.
According to Reutuers, Canadian police on Monday categorized the attack as a hate crime. “There is evidence that this was a planned, premeditated act, motivated by hate,” Detective Superintendent Paul Waight of the London, Ontario, police department told media.
