Several areas of Karachi on Saturday have experienced a power outage due to the tripping of KE's 220 kV high tension line. K-Electric, the company which supplies electricity to Karachi, said they are trying to restore the supply.
Taking to Twitter, the power utility company said that supply to associated grids has been affected due to tripping.
"Karachi Power Update #1: Power supply to parts of Karachi has been interrupted due to tripping of KE's 220 kV high tension line. Due to this, supply to associated grids has been affected," KE said and added, "Restoration efforts have already begun and are expected to be completed within one hour. Availability of generation supply is enabling restoration to progress swiftly."
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Energy stated that the supply of electricity to Karachi was affected because of tripping in the Northern Karachi Interconnections (NKI) transmission lines Baldia 1 and 2.
"The system in the rest of the country is completely normal. NTDC (National Transmission and Despatch Company) and KE officials are busy restoring the electricity supply. The causes of tripping are also being investigated," it added in a statement."
