ISLAMABAD: The federal government has removed Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Amir Zulfiqar and appoint Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman of Police Service of Pakistan as new IG of Islamabad.
According to reports, Inspector General (IG) Islamabad Amir Zulfiqar has been transferred, Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman has been appointed as the new IG in his place.
A notification of transfer of Amir Zulfiqar has also been issued. Earlier, Qazi Jameel-ur-Rehman was serving in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Qazi Jami-ur-Rehman, a BS-20 Officer of Police Service of Pakistan, presently serving under Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is transferred and posted as Inspector General, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, under Interior Division, in his own pay and scale, with immediate effect and until further orders,” read a notification issued to this effect.
According to sources the demands had been made for changing the IG in the wake of a 22-year-old Osama Satti’s murder at the hands of Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) men in an alleged staged shootout in Islamabad.
The transfer comes a few days after a young man was killed on January 2 when Islamabad police personnel opened fire at him for not stopping his car near Sector G-10.
Policemen Mudassir, Shakeel Ahmed, Muhammad Mustafa, Saeed Ahmed, and Iftikhar Ahmed were arrested after the deceased’s family claimed that Usama Satti, 21, was killed because of an earlier fight with a policeman. NNI
