Govt appoints new finance minister to replace Dar

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has finally appointed PML-N lawmaker Rana Afzal as to fill the vacancy of state minister for finance, Aaj News reported. 

A formal notification of the appointment is expected to release later today and Rana Afzal is expected to swear into the office on Tuesday (26 December).

The decision was made during a meeting between PM Abbasi, Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Rana Afzal is currently appointed as the federal parliamentary secretary for finance, revenue, economic affairs, statistics and privitisation.

The position of finance ministry went vacant when former finance minister, Ishaq Dar asked PM Abbasi to grant him an infinite leave on medical grounds.
