MADRID: Struggling La Liga side Las Palmas sacked their coach Pako Ayestaran on Thursday just two months after his arrival at the Canary Islanders.
Spanish media report that Paco Jemez, who has recently quit as manager of Mexican side Cruz Azul, is in the frame to take over as his successor.
A club statement read: "Until the club names a new manager Paquito Ortiz (assistant coach) and Rafa Cristobal will take charge of the team".
Ayestaran, 54, was appointed on September 27, replacing Manuel Marquez, who also lasted only two months.
Under his stewardship Las Palmas have lost six and drawn one of their seven games to leave them one off the foot of the table.
Las Palmas ended former Valencia boss Ayestaran's short tenure after Wednesday's 3-2 Copa del Rey defeat to Deportivo La Coruna.
Despite that loss Las Palmas qualified for the last 16 after winning the first leg 4-1-AFP.
