KARACHI: Fire broke out at a residential flat of a multi-storeyed building in furniture market of Gharibabad, off Liaquatabad, Thursday.

Authorities told APP that exact cause is yet to be ascertained, however, fire was so intense that it soon engulfed shops and godowns in the ground floor of the building.

Fire engines have been dispatched as soon the incident was reported, while prior to it the area residents managed to get the building evacuated.

They on self help basis also tried to control spread of fire.

"No injury has yet been reported although ambulances also reached the area," said the official.

He was hopeful that fire would soon be brought under control adding that with wooden furniture, both new and old, around the affected site could had turned the situation serious.

The mishap also affected traffic flow moving from Hasan Square to Nazimabad, SITE and areas ahead as S.M Taufiq Road where the market is located is a main artery in the metropolis.
