KARACHI: Unknown armed men opened fire at the “Awami Tehreek†rally on Tuesday. The firing incidents resulted in injuries to almost 25 individuals including two policemen, one girl and a few women. Eleven individuals have been reported dead and all dead bodies have been sent to Civil Hospital, Karachi.
The "Awami Tehreek" had called for a Sindh-Dost (Pro-Sindh) rally at Bolton Market, on which unknown armed men opened fire. The firing led to injuries to 25 individuals including a girl and two policemen. A private TV reporter, Aslam Khan, and his cameraman, Khaleel, got injured while covering the incident.
The injured have been transferred to Civil Hospital, Karachi.
According to a spokesman of the “Awami Tehreek†party, the firing incident inflicted injuries to several women.
Other incidents of firing within the Bolton market and Denso Hall area led shop-keepers to close their businesses. According to recent reports, trouble-makers have put almost 10 cars and at least 20 motorcycles on fire.
Recent Reports have also indicated that a curfew may be imposed within the southern district of Karachi. The district south prominently comprises areas of Lyari, Saddar, Bolton market and Juna market. A high-level meeting is underway to consider the law and order situation and whether a curfew would be needed to restore peace within the region.
