Olmert orders retaliation against Palestinian rocket fire

"Prime Minister Olmert has been updated and spoke on the phone with defence minister Amir Peretz, and instructed him to continue to act against Qassam rocket fire and infrastructure," Olmert's spokeswoman Miri Eisin told reporters.
A 57-year-old woman was killed in the southern Israeli town of Sderot and several people were seriously injured on Wednesday when Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired several salvos of home-made rockets against Israel.
Speaking later before a group of Jewish donors in Los Angeles, Olmert said that "our operations in Gaza will continue relentlessly. As we speak, the Israeli army command is discussing further steps it can take to fight terror."
Eisin added that "the prime minister sees the attack as extremely serious and expresses his deep sorrow for the death of the Israeli citizen."
The death marked the first time since July 2005 that home-made rockets fired by militants in Gaza killed a person inside Israel.
In Gaza City, the armed wings of the ruling Islamist Hamas movement and the ultra-radical Islamic Jihad both claimed responsibility for the deadly strike.
In all, 13 rockets fell inside Israel on Wednesday, the army said.
