Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Tuesday, with the two sides discussing regional and international developments and efforts to promote peace and stability.

Naqvi arrived in the Iranian capital earlier in the day, where Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni received him at Tehran airport.

According to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency, Naqvi and Araghchi held talks on the evolving situation in the region, recent regional and international developments and ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability.

The two officials also discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.

Naqvi is expected to hold further meetings with Iranian officials during his visit, with bilateral issues and other matters of mutual interest likely to come under discussion.

The visit comes about a month after Momeni travelled to Islamabad, where he met his Pakistani counterpart.

Pakistan has in recent months played a diplomatic role in efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States.

Islamabad, along with Qatar, helped facilitate the establishment of a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington in June.

However, Tehran has said it reclosed the Strait of Hormuz following what it described as violations of the understanding by Washington.

Iran has maintained that the waterway will be reopened after the alleged US violations end and compensation is provided for the resulting losses.
