Gunmen opened fire at the office of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) National Assembly member and former federal minister Qadir Patel in Clifton’s Boat Basin area, police said on Monday.

According to police officials, unidentified assailants travelling in a car opened fire at the office gate before fleeing the scene.

No casualties were reported in the incident, while the bullets struck the office’s main entrance, officials said.

Police recovered five 9mm pistol casings from the scene and launched an investigation into the incident.

Following the attack, security has been tightened around Patel’s office in the Boat Basin area, where the incident took place late at night.

Police said CCTV footage from cameras installed in the area was being obtained to help identify the attackers.

Authorities are also taking steps to trace and arrest those involved in the firing, police added.
