At least eight people, including two women and a seven-year-old child, were killed and six others injured when the roof of their house collapsed in Lahore, rescue officials said on Thursday.

Emergency teams continued search operations amid reports that three more people were trapped under the debris.

The incident occurred in Baghbanpura’s Kotli Pir Abdul Rehman area, where the roof of a three-storey building collapsed late Wednesday night.

According to Rescue 1122, eight people lost their lives while six others sustained injuries and were shifted to Services Hospital for treatment.

Rescue officials said search and rescue operations were still underway, with reports suggesting that up to three more people could be trapped beneath the rubble.

According to rescue sources, seven of the victims belonged to the same family.

The building, located near Sukh Nehr in Baghbanpura, was reportedly in a dilapidated condition, and a child’s birthday celebration was underway when the roof caved in at around 10pm.

In a separate incident in Lahore’s Harbanspura area, four people, including two women and a child, were killed after the roof of a house collapsed, while six others were injured.

Rescue 1122 said emergency teams reached the site shortly after the incident and launched a rescue operation.

Urban Search and Rescue personnel, assisted by 10 emergency vehicles and around 40 rescuers, were deployed to remove debris and search for anyone trapped underneath.

The deceased were identified as Shahida, 60, Samina, 52, Mujahid, 25, and seven-year-old Hammad.

Authorities are continuing rescue efforts at both sites as investigations into the causes of the collapses are underway.
