Pakistan’s Meteorological Department on Friday issued a rain alert, forecasting monsoon rains and thunderstorms in several parts of the country through early next week and warning of possible urban flooding.

According to the department, monsoon winds entering southern and central Pakistan will be bringing rain to various regions, including Sindh, from Friday evening through Monday.

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and Gulyat are expected to receive thundershowers until July 26. Rain and thunderstorms have also been forecast for Lahore, southern Punjab and most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until July 27.

Karachi is likely to receive rain on July 25 and 26, while intermittent rainfall is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan until July 26 and in Azad Kashmir until July 28.

The Meteorological Department warned of a risk of urban flooding in Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Hyderabad, Sukkur and some districts of Sindh.

It also said strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable structures, solar panels, electricity poles and signboards.

The department directed relevant agencies to remain on alert and take necessary precautionary measures.
