A seven-year-old boy died after falling into an open manhole in Karachi’s Noor Shah locality of Mowach Goth, police said on Thursday.

The child, identified as Jahangir, was playing near the site when he fell into the uncovered manhole, according to police sources.

The incident occurred a short while before it was reported to authorities.

Local residents and police responded to the scene and carried out a rescue effort, recovering the boy’s body from the manhole. Police said the body has been shifted to hospital.
