Iran strikes Kuwait again as Bahrain intercepts aerial attacks
2 min readRegional tensions escalated further on Saturday as Iran launched fresh attacks across the Gulf, striking Kuwait’s energy infrastructure for a second consecutive day, while Bahrain said it intercepted multiple Iranian aerial attacks targeting the kingdom.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said an Iranian strike sparked a fire at a power generation and water desalination plant, forcing several electricity generation units to shut down.
The ministry said emergency teams were working to contain the blaze and carry out repairs.
It marked the second consecutive day that Kuwait’s electricity and water infrastructure came under attack.
On Friday, another power and desalination plant was struck, causing significant damage to several power generation units.
Kuwait Airways reschedules flights
The escalating security situation also disrupted air travel in Kuwait.
Kuwait Airways announced that it had rescheduled most of its flights after Kuwaiti authorities closed the country’s airspace following the latest Iranian attacks.
The national carrier said take-off and landing operations at Kuwait International Airport had been temporarily suspended and urged passengers to monitor their flight status through official notifications and text messages.
Bahrain intercepts Iranian attacks
Meanwhile, Bahrain said its air defence systems had successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian aerial attacks.
In a statement, the Bahrain Defence Force said its air defence systems had neutralised multiple incoming threats launched by Iran.
Earlier, Iran’s military said it had targeted a US military base in Bahrain as part of its latest wave of retaliatory strikes across the Gulf, following overnight attacks on Jordan and Kuwait.
The latest developments come as military exchanges between Iran and the United States continue to intensify, with Gulf states increasingly affected by the expanding conflict.
