Anti-Trump billboards emerge across Tehran amid rising US-Iran tensions
1 min readBillboards depicting US President Donald Trump lying in an open coffin appeared across Tehran on Wednesday, carrying anti-US slogans in English and Farsi, including the phrase “We kill Trump.”
The displays were placed on city thoroughfares and building facades. Separate banners showed US flag-draped coffins alongside images of Trump, his wife and children.
The billboards appeared amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following threats of retaliation over the killing of Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on February 28.
A written statement from Iran’s new supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, released on Saturday (July 11) to mark funeral ceremonies for his predecessor, warned that vengeance would come regardless of the circumstances facing Iran.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he had ordered the US military to be prepared to launch thousands of missiles against Iran if Tehran attempted to assassinate him.
The Wall Street Journal and other US media reported that Israel had shared intelligence with Washington suggesting Iran had recently developed a plan to assassinate Trump.
During funeral ceremonies on July 9, a large crowd of mourners gathered, with some carrying banners that read, “We Will Kill Trump.”
