US President Donald Trump warned Iran that any attempt to assassinate him would trigger an overwhelming military response, saying the United States was prepared to launch thousands of missiles against the Islamic Republic.

In a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Trump claimed that “1,000 missiles are locked and loaded” and aimed at Iran, with thousands more ready to follow if Tehran acted on what he described as repeated threats to target the sitting US president.

He said military orders had already been issued and asserted that US forces were “ready, willing, and able” to carry out a sustained campaign that could “completely decimate and destroy” targets across Iran if such an attack were attempted.

“1000 Missiles are Locked and Loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands of more to immediately follow, should the Iranian Government act on its threat, pronounced in many corners of the Globe, to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting President of the United States of America, in this case, ME!” he said.

“Orders have already been given, and the US Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran.”

Trump’s warning came amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran after he earlier declared that the interim ceasefire between the two countries was “over,” although the United States agreed to continue negotiations requested by Iran.

The remarks also followed a Wall Street Journal report claiming Israel had shared intelligence with Washington suggesting Iran had developed a new plot to assassinate the US president.

Iran and the United States signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June, brokered by Pakistan, to end the conflict that erupted in late February and lay the groundwork for a permanent peace agreement.

The agreement called for an immediate halt to hostilities, the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iran and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping.

However, the fragile truce has come under strain after both sides exchanged fresh strikes this week over the passage of commercial vessels through the strategic waterway.
