Earthquake tremors felt across Islamabad, KP and Punjab
2 min readEarthquake tremors were felt across Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday evening, sending residents rushing out of their homes reciting prayers.
In Punjab, shaking was reported in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Attock, Okara, Phalia, Hassan Abdal, Taxila, Wah Cantt, Bhawlal and Nankana Sahib, among other cities.
According to PDMA Punjab, the earthquake measured 5.9 on the Richter scale at 6.35 p.m., with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 178 kilometres.
In KP, strong tremors were felt in Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Bajaur, Mardan, Swat, Sawabi, Bannu, Charsadda, Chitral and Lakki Marwat.
The seismological centre recorded the magnitude at 5.7 in the province. The KP Assembly session in progress at the time was also suspended.
The earthquake comes a day after three tremors struck Balochistan on Friday.
Those earthquakes caused significant damage in the Kangri tehsil of Musa Khel district, where dozens of homes were damaged in the Killi Chap area and surrounding villages. More than 20 people were injured, including women and children, who were shifted to nearby hospitals.
Commissioner Loralai Division Wali Muhammad Baraich said more than 90 houses were affected, with several mud-brick homes fully or partially collapsed.
He added that reports of further damage continued to arrive from various areas. Authorities said a survey was underway to assess the full extent of casualties and losses, and urged residents to take precautionary measures in view of possible aftershocks.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage from Saturday’s earthquake.
