9th Muharram procession proceeds under tight security in Karachi
2 min readTight security measures were in place for the main 9th Muharram procession in Karachi, which was taken out from Nishtar Park at around 1pm.
After an address by Allama Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi at Nishtar Park, the participants started their journey under the leadership of Pak Haideri Scouts.
The mourners offered Zuhrain prayers on M.A. Jinnah Road in front of Imambargah Ali Raza.
Maulana Sadiq Jafri led the prayers, which were attended by a large number of mourners.
Authorities have deployed more than 5,000 police personnel to ensure the security of the procession.
As part of the security measures, all streets and roads connected to the procession route have been sealed with containers, while markets and shops located along the route have been closed.
The procession will continue along its traditional route before concluding at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
According to a Karachi Police spokesperson, foolproof security arrangements have been put in place for the procession.
More than 5,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed, while Rangers personnel will also perform security duties.
Additional traffic police officers will be stationed to ensure smooth traffic flow.
As part of the security measures, all streets and roads connected to the procession route have been sealed with containers.
Markets and shops located along the route will also remain closed for three days.
Police said trained security personnel equipped with binoculars and modern weapons have been deployed on high-rise buildings situated along the procession route.
In addition, the Bomb Disposal Squad cleared the route before it was handed over to the procession organisers.
