Police on Tuesday arrested six people, including the prime suspect, Arsalan, in connection with the rape and murder of seven-year-old Muntaha in Sargodha’s Block No. 8 area, as investigators widen the probe and await a forensic medical report.

Muntaha had left her home to buy items from a nearby shop but never returned. Her body was recovered shortly after, triggering grief and outrage across the neighbourhood.

According to the FIR, the prime suspect, Arsalan, allegedly lured the child to his shop, sexually assaulted her, and then killed her with a sharp-edged weapon, fearing identification.

He fled the scene after the incident.

During initial proceedings, police took shop owner Hanif, his son, and other suspects into custody.

Sargodha DPO Sohaib Ashraf directed the formation of a special six-member investigation team, and multiple raids were conducted at various locations to apprehend the prime suspect.

Muntaha’s funeral prayers were held at the central graveyard and attended by a large number of residents. Her parents and family were visibly devastated. Mourners demanded the harshest punishment for those responsible and called for immediate justice for the bereaved family.

Police have confirmed the arrest of six individuals, including Arsalan, and said legal proceedings are underway to secure their physical remand.

Authorities added that the case is being investigated from all angles, with forensic evidence, witness statements, and suspect histories all under examination.

The medical report of the deceased has not yet been made public. Doctors said additional time is required to finalise findings.

Police officials stated that all arrested individuals will face action strictly in accordance with the law, and no one responsible will be spared.

Muntaha’s parents have urged the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure the case reaches its logical conclusion and those responsible are exemplary punished.

Residents and civil society representatives have strongly condemned the incident, demanding deterrent punishment for the killers to prevent such crimes in future.

Police said further significant developments in the investigation are expected soon.
