Pezeshkian due today to hold talks with president, PM
2 min readIranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Tuesday afternoon on a brief visit during which he will hold talks with Pakistan’s top civilian leadership, according to official sources.
Dr Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers and other high-ranking officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior officials are expected to receive the Iranian president at the airport.
During the visit, President Pezeshkian will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold talks with the prime minister.
Prime Minister Shehbaz and President Pezeshkian are expected to hold formal talks focusing on exploring new avenues of cooperation between Pakistan and Iran.
The prime minister will also host a dinner in honour of the visiting leader.
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will call on the Iranian president.
According to sources, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to return to Iran later the same night.
Security has been placed on high alert in Islamabad’s Red Zone ahead of the visit, with preparations completed for the reception of the Iranian president.
Pakistani and Iranian flags have been displayed along major roads to welcome the visiting dignitary.
This will be Dr Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as President of Iran.
“During the visit, the two sides will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues to further deepen cooperation across diverse sectors, including trade, energy, border security, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.
