Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to ensure comprehensive security, cleanliness and administrative arrangements across the province during Muharram-ul-Haram, warning that no negligence will be tolerated.

Chairing a meeting in Lahore to review Muharram preparations, the chief minister said maintaining law and order remained the government’s top priority.

She instructed commissioners, regional police officers, deputy commissioners and police officials to remain in the field and personally supervise arrangements.

CM Maryam ordered the provision of all possible facilities along procession and majlis routes, including the installation of water and refreshment stalls for mourners.

She stressed the need for a three-tier security plan and directed authorities to keep CCTV monitoring systems fully operational throughout the month.

The chief minister said control rooms had been established in every district and that all departments must remain prepared to respond to any emergency situation.

She praised the performance and coordination of security institutions, including the Home Department, police, intelligence agencies and the Safe Cities Authority, saying they had worked together effectively to maintain public safety.

CM Maryam also commended departments responsible for sanitation and municipal services for their performance during Eid al-Azha.

US-Iran peace deal

Separately, the chief minister welcomed the reported peace agreement between Iran and the United States and praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating diplomatic efforts.

“Long live Pakistan and long live peace,” she said, adding that history would remember Pakistan’s contribution to helping avert wider economic disruption through its diplomatic engagement.
