Shehbaz, Erdogan agree to continue cooperation for regional peace
2 min readPrime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday agreed to continue close coordination for peace, stability and dialogue in the region during a telephone conversation held on the occasion of Eid al-Azha.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders exchanged Eid greetings during a warm and cordial call and reaffirmed the historic and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Turkiye.
PM Shehbaz conveyed Eid al-Azha greetings to the Turkish leadership and people, which were warmly reciprocated by President Erdogan.
Recalling their recent engagements, including their meeting in Antalya in April, both leaders said bilateral relations had grown stronger and agreed to accelerate cooperation in trade, investment and regional connectivity.
The two sides also reviewed the regional situation and exchanged views on ongoing peace efforts.
PM Shehbaz thanked Turkiye for its “strong and consistent support” for Pakistan-led peace initiatives, while both leaders agreed to continue working together to promote dialogue, de-escalation and stability in the region.
President Erdogan also expressed condolences over the May 24 train bombing in Balochistan and assured Pakistan of Turkiye’s full solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
The prime minister thanked the Turkish president for his support and said Pakistan would continue operations against terrorism in all its forms.
In a post on X, Shehbaz Sharif said he had a “most warm and cordial conversation” with President Erdogan and reaffirmed the “deep-rooted, historic, and time-tested bonds” between Pakistan and Turkiye.
“We agreed to further accelerate our cooperation in trade, investment, and regional connectivity, while continuing our close coordination for peace, stability, and dialogue in the region,” the prime minister wrote.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz issued a message to the nation on Eid al-Azha, extending greetings to the people of Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah.
He said the occasion symbolised the values of faith, sacrifice, compassion and selflessness demonstrated by Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) and Hazrat Ismail (AS).
The prime minister urged people to support the underprivileged and reaffirm commitment to unity, brotherhood and service to humanity.
He also reiterated solidarity with Palestinians and Kashmiris, praying for peace, harmony and prosperity across the world.
