Death toll in Lakki Marwat blast rises to 11 after injured victims dies
2 min readAt least 11 people were killed and 35 injured, including women and children, in an explosion at Railway Phatak Chowk in Sarai Naurang Market of Lakki Marwat, police said on Thursday.
Police said another injured person died during treatment at a hospital in Bannu, raising the death toll from the blast to 11.
A total of 46 people were affected in the explosion, according to police officials. 16 critically injured people were shifted to Bannu Hospital, where several remain in critical condition.
Authorities have not yet announced any compensation or assistance for the families of those killed and injured.
Earlier, the terrorists had planted an explosive device on a motorcycle, which detonated in the middle of the road in the market area.
Several others got injured in the blast and were immediately rushed to Sarai Naurang Hospital for treatment.
District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan confirmed that nine people were killed at that time and 18 others were injured in the explosion.
“Two of the deceased were traffic police officers,” he said, adding that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on a motorcycle.
Following the incident, a large contingent of security forces reached the scene, cordoning off the area and launching an investigation to collect evidence.
Security sources said a search operation has been launched to apprehend those responsible for the attack, citing the potential presence of militants in the area.
