Trump signals possible Iran talks in Pakistan within days
2 min readUS President Donald Trump has indicated that a second round of talks with Iran could take place in Pakistan within the next two days, following an inconclusive first round over the weekend.
In an interview with the New York Post on Tuesday, Trump said the United States was now “more inclined” to return to Islamabad for the next phase of negotiations.
“You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” Trump told a Post reporter in Islamabad during a phone call.
According to the report, Trump initially suggested that talks were unlikely to return to Pakistan.
However, he called back minutes later to revise his assessment, saying it was now “more likely” that Islamabad would host the next round.
“We are more inclined to go to Pakistan. There is a greater possibility of going there,” Trump said, adding that “anything could happen in the next two days.”
The US president also praised Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for his role and leadership.
“Field Marshal is doing a great job,” Trump said, describing him as “amazing” and citing this as a key reason behind the preference for Pakistan as the venue.
Trump further recalled being in contact with Pakistan’s military leadership during last year’s tensions between Pakistan and India.
He claimed that the conflict ended within four days due to a peace agreement, with US assistance playing a role.
“After just four days, the war ended because of a peace deal. The United States helped,” he said.
The potential talks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to revive dialogue between Washington and Tehran, though no formal confirmation of the venue or schedule has been announced.
