Constable martyred, four injured in attack on polio team in Hangu

A police team assigned to provide security to polio vaccination workers came under attack in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, resulting in the martyrdom of a police constable and injuries to four others.

According to Station House Officer (SHO) Mahmood Alam, an exchange of fire took place between police and the attackers, during which additional police contingents were called to the area.

A police spokesperson said that unidentified assailants opened fire on the security personnel deployed for the protection of polio teams in the Chapri Waziran area in the Thall Police Station jurisdiction.

He confirmed that one officer was martyred and four others sustained injuries in the attack.

The martyred officer, identified as Israr-ul-Haq, was undergoing an intermediate course at the Police Training College (PTC) and hailed from Shangla.

The injured personnel have been shifted to a local hospital where they are receiving medical treatment.

Police have launched a search operation across the area following the incident.
