Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has revealed that he turned to alcohol following his divorce from Reena Dutta, saying the separation led to a difficult emotional phase in his life.

Speaking in an interview, Aamir said he was a teetotaller before the divorce and had only consumed alcohol occasionally for film scenes. He said the breakdown of his marriage left him struggling to cope.

He recalled that the day Reena Dutta left with their children was particularly difficult, describing it as a turning point in his life.

Aamir said alcohol was available at home for guests, and he began drinking that night. He added that this marked the start of a period that lasted around one and a half years.

He said he would drink heavily during that time, describing it as a low phase following the end of his marriage.

Aamir Khan married Reena Dutta in 1986, and the couple separated in 2002 after 16 years of marriage. They have two children.
