US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed in recent weeks that the war with Iran is nearing its conclusion, even as the conflict enters its fifth week with tens of thousands of US troops being deployed to the Middle East.

Trump’s public statements have alternated between suggesting victory is imminent, warning of further strikes, and hinting at potential peace negotiations, a report by Axios said.

Over the past month, he has made at least a dozen remarks suggesting the war could end soon, from declaring the operation a success to claiming Iran would face regime change.

In a Monday social media post, Trump threatened to “obliterate” Iran’s energy and water infrastructure if a deal to end the war is not reached.

Yet in previous comments, he told reporters, “We’ve won this war,” and described military objectives as largely achieved, while simultaneously noting operations would continue until all goals are met.

White House officials have attempted to clarify, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt saying Operation Epic Fury is “very close” to meeting its core objectives, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio adding that the mission should conclude “in a matter of weeks.”

Analysts say the pattern of statements highlights a mix of political messaging and military reality, as the administration seeks to assure the public that the conflict will not become prolonged.
