Russia offers cheap oil to Pakistan
2 min readRussia has expressed readiness to supply discounted oil to Pakistan if Islamabad makes a formal request, Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Khorev said that, to his knowledge, Pakistan has not yet formally approached Moscow for oil purchases.
However, he stressed that Russia would be willing to provide crude at concessional rates if such a request is made.
He noted that energy remains a key pillar of cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, adding that both sides have significant potential to expand collaboration in the sector.
Commenting on the regional situation, the envoy said Russia maintains long-standing military and technical ties with Iran. He described Tehran’s recent responses as largely limited to targeting U.S. military installations in the Gulf, but cautioned that the overall situation remains complex and uncertain.
Khorev also commented on recent military actions by US President Donald Trump, saying the global community has been taken by surprise and it is difficult to predict how and when the conflict will end.
He strongly condemned a reported attack on a girls’ school in Iran that allegedly killed around 170 students, calling it unacceptable.
The envoy urged all parties to avoid the use of force and resolve disputes through political and diplomatic means in line with the United Nations Charter.
Khorev further said that the use of force by the US and Israel against Iran has escalated tensions in the region, warning that such actions could weaken Iran’s leadership and deepen divisions within the Muslim world.
