Funeral prayers for four police personnel martyred in a terrorist attack in Bajaur were offered with full official honours on Wednesday, drawing a large number of senior civil and police officials, tribal elders and members of civil society.

A smartly turned-out police contingent presented a salute to the martyrs — Constables Yarzada, Daud Khan, Imran and Siraj — while floral wreaths were laid on the coffins in tribute to their sacrifice.

Special prayers were offered for the elevation of their ranks and for peace and stability in the country.

Following the funeral ceremony, the bodies were dispatched under police escort to their ancestral areas, where they will be buried with full official honours.

The Ababeel Squad personnel had embraced martyrdom in the terrorist attack carried out by Fitna Al Khawarij militants near Naway Kallay shortly before Iftar on Wednesday.

The attackers targeted the patrolling party of the Bajaur Police’s Ababeel Squad in a cowardly assault.

As a result of the attack, four policemen were martyred while two others — Irshad Khan and Azizur Rehman — sustained injuries.

The wounded personnel were admitted to the hospital, where they were receiving medical treatment.

Talking to the media, District Police Officer Muhammad Khalid said that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain and vowed that those involved in the attack would be brought to justice.

A search operation in the area would continue until the terrorists were eliminated, the DPO added.
