KP Ramazan relief package sparks allegations of bias
1 min readA Ramazan relief package announced for deserving families in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become a subject of political debate, with reports suggesting that the Rs13 billion allocation may be distributed primarily among Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers.
According to sources, PTI’s elected representatives have been instructed to submit lists of individuals eligible for the aid.
Each provincial assembly member has reportedly been given the authority to nominate 5,000 people, while National Assembly members can propose 2,000 names each.
Additionally, each tehsil chairman has been asked to submit lists of 200 individuals.
The package’s distribution plan appears to extend beyond winning candidates, with even unsuccessful PTI candidates allotted the same quota as elected representatives.
Party officials, along with affiliated groups like the Insaaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), Insaaf Students Federation (ISF), and PTI’s youth wing, have also been given the power to recommend who receives the aid.
On the other hand, opposition members in the provincial assembly have been completely left out of the programme, sparking worries that this Ramazan assistance from the public treasury could end up benefiting only those with close ties to the ruling party.
