‘We will not just carry coffins’: Pakistan vows decisive response to terror
2 min readFederal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry told the Senate that Pakistan had carried out targeted airstrikes against terrorist hideouts in Afghanistan, hitting more than 100 militants in response to recent suicide attacks inside the country.
In a policy statement, the minister said militants operating from Afghan territory were behind recent attacks, including a suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad during Friday prayers and explosions in Bannu and Bajaur.
He said Pakistan had presented concrete evidence to Afghan authorities regarding terrorist sanctuaries, but no effective action was taken, and infiltration continued.
Safe havens inside Afghanistan were identified, and discussions were held following border tensions with the involvement of friendly countries, he added.
Chaudhry said that despite negotiations, terrorist activities persisted.
He claimed that during talks, a demand was made for Rs10 billion to relocate militants away from the border, but no guarantees were provided.
The minister stated that Pakistan’s Air Force conducted strikes on February 21 in three Afghan provinces, targeting training camps and hideouts linked to banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
He rejected what he described as propaganda about civilian casualties, insisting only terrorist targets were hit.
“We cannot remain limited to carrying coffins,” he said, adding that any hostile act against Pakistan would be met with force and that the country would defend every inch of its territory until the last terrorist is eliminated.
