Sri Lanka crush Oman for second victory in T20 World Cup
1 min readSri Lanka continued their impressive run in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup, defeating Oman by 105 runs in a dominant display on Thursday.
After being asked to bat first, Sri Lanka set a target of 225 runs in 20 overs.
Kusal Mendis led the charge with a brilliant 61 runs, while Pavan Rathnayake struck 60 runs.
The duo stitched together a crucial 94-run partnership for the third wicket to lay a solid foundation. Skipper Dasun Shanaka further boosted the innings with a valuable 50.
Despite missing key spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who was ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury sustained in the Group B win over Ireland, Sri Lanka’s bowling unit stepped up.
The bowlers struck at regular intervals and never allowed Oman to settle, restricting them to 120 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Wasim Ali provided some resistance with a 27, while Mohammad Nadeem remained unbeaten on 53.
However, with wickets tumbling at the other end, Oman had no chance of a comeback and suffered their second defeat of the tournament after losing to Zimbabwe.
Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana claimed two wickets each, while Hasaranga’s replacement Dushan Hemantha took one wicket.
Sri Lanka will now face Australia at the same venue on Monday.
