ATC issues non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan
1 min readAn anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan on Monday after her continuous absence from hearings in a case related to the November 26 unrest.
The ATC Judge, Amjad Ali Shah, presided over the hearing.
Aleema Khan’s lawyer had submitted a request for her exemption from appearing in court, which was rejected by the court.
The court issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Aleema Khan and directed the SP Rawalpindi to arrest her and present her in court tomorrow.
Aleema Khan’s lawyer argued that she would not appear in court until her bank accounts and national identity card are unfrozen.
However, the prosecutor argued that the defendant could not dictate the court’s proceedings, adding that her actions were “irresponsible from the beginning.”
The court emphasised that Aleema Khan could not hijack the court proceedings and that the trial would continue daily.
The court also ruled that Aleema Khan’s bank accounts and national ID card would remain blocked until her appearance in court.
Additionally, the court issued a notice to Aleema Khan’s guarantor and postponed the next hearing until tomorrow (Tuesday).
