Afridi calls sit-in outside Adiala Jail over PTI founder’s health
2 min readKhyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Khan Afridi on Thursday announced a sit-in outside Adiala Jail after he and other PTI leaders were denied permission to meet the party’s founder Imran Khan, citing serious concerns over his health.
Speaking to the media at the Factory Naka near Adiala Jail, CM Afridi said the PTI founder was shifted from jail to a hospital on Saturday night but his family was not informed.
He questioned why details of the illness were withheld and asked what prompted the secrecy if the situation was serious.
“The nation will not tolerate any risk to the life of our leader,” CM Afridi said, adding that every citizen has a fundamental right to receive treatment from a personal physician.
He demanded immediate access for the PTI founder’s family and private doctors.
Earlier, the scheduled time for jail meetings ended without any PTI leader being allowed to see the former prime minister.
CM Afridi, along with provincial ministers Meena Khan and Shafi Jan, Senator Falak Naz and MPA Ijaz Khan, had reached Adiala Jail for the meeting.
Following the denial, CM Afridi announced that PTI leaders would stage a sit-in outside the jail and remain there overnight.
He said most parliamentarians had already arrived, while others were expected to join soon.
Members of the provincial and national assemblies from KP continued to reach the Factory Naka.
“This is a matter of our leader’s life and cannot be normalised,” CM Afridi said, expressing full support for the stance taken by PTI leader Salman Akram Raja.
He urged the public to remain alert and said the protest would continue until demands were met.
Addressing the media, Salman Akram Raja said court orders permitting meetings were not being implemented.
He described reports about the PTI founder’s health as alarming and accused the government of misleading the public for several days.
He said the family had been kept uninformed about the PTI founder’s condition and confirmed that an eye surgery had been performed.
“We are extremely concerned,” Raja said, adding that all PTI MNAs and MPAs had been directed to reach Adiala Jail.
PTI leaders said the protest would continue until authorities allowed the family and personal physicians to meet the party founder and provided full clarity on his medical condition.
