ATC grants interim bail to Liaquat Mehsud in Garden unrest cases
1 min readAn anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi on Wednesday granted interim bail to Liaquat Mehsud in two cases registered in connection with the death of a young man after a dumper truck collision and the subsequent unrest in the Garden area.
The accused was produced before the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism court.
Two cases have been registered against Mehsud at the Garden police station, including one related to rioting and another involving illegal possession of weapons.
Anti-terrorism provisions were added to the cases at the instructions of a sessions court.
The court approved interim bail for Mehsud against surety of Rs100,000 in the rioting case and Rs50,000 in the weapons case.
It also extended his interim bail in both cases and adjourned further hearings until February 4.
According to the prosecution, Mehsud, along with his armed guards, engaged in violence and assaulted citizens following the fatal traffic accident.
The defence counsel told the court that the accused had fully cooperated with investigators.
Earlier, a sessions court had rejected Mehsud’s bail application before the matter was taken up by the anti-terrorism court.
