Search halted at Gul Plaza as 73 dead, 49 still missing
1 min readThe search and debris removal operation at the Gul Plaza tragedy site in Karachi was completely stopped on Tuesday, with the administration handing over the building to the Karachi Building Control Authority (SBCA) for experts to decide on demolition.
Sources said the death toll has risen to 73, while 49 people remain missing.
Police and Rangers personnel have been deployed around the building for security.
A green shed has been installed, and officials are monitoring the site to prevent unauthorised access.
DNA samples from more than 55 individuals have been collected to identify the missing.
So far, 24 people have been identified—17 through DNA testing and 7 immediately.
However, obtaining DNA from some remains is proving difficult, delaying identification further.
Authorities said the decision on whether to completely remove or demolish the building will be taken by SBCA experts.
They urged the public and families to comply with safety measures and avoid entering the affected area.
