An alleged financial fraud exceeding Rs2 billion has surfaced involving several current and former members of the Pakistan cricket team, sources said on Friday.

According to sources, a businessman collected crores of rupees from multiple national cricketers in the name of investment, promising monthly returns of 8 to 9 per cent.

For several months, the investors were paid substantial profits regularly, which encouraged them to commit additional funds.

Sources said the situation changed after the business reportedly suffered losses.

The businessman allegedly stopped paying returns, severed contact with the cricketers, and failed to return the original investment amounts.

Those said to be affected include former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, along with current international players Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha.

Sources claimed that other former and serving national cricketers may also be among the victims.

Despite the scale of the alleged fraud, sources said none of the cricketers has formally approached law enforcement so far.

However, they warned that legal action would be initiated against the businessman if the matter is not resolved.

Sources added that the players are currently consulting their legal advisers, and a final decision on filing complaints or initiating court proceedings is expected in the coming days.
