Pakistan and the United States have concluded the joint military exercise Inspired Gambit-2026, with both sides describing it as a key step in strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and operational coordination.

According to a statement shared on the official X account of the US Central Command (Centcom), American and Pakistani troops this week completed training at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), as part of the joint exercise.

Centcom said the drills focused on infantry skills, advanced tactical manoeuvres and counterterrorism operations, aimed at improving the forces’ ability to respond to evolving security challenges.

The exercise further strengthened mutual trust, coordination and practical cooperation between the two armies, the statement added.

Inspired Gambit-2026 was held from January 8 to 16, spanning two weeks, with a primary focus on counterterrorism. It marked the 13th iteration of the bilateral training series, which has been conducted regularly since 1995, reflecting the long-standing defence relationship between Pakistan and the United States.

A Distinguished Visitors’ Day ceremony was held on January 15 at NCTC Pabbi. US Chargé d’Affaires to Pakistan Natalie Baker, accompanied by senior US military officials, attended the event alongside the Commander Rawalpindi Corps.

The visiting dignitaries were briefed on the scope, objectives and conduct of the exercise. Participants from both armies demonstrated a high level of professionalism and operational competence, which was appreciated by the visitors.

According to officials, the exercise aims to enhance bilateral military cooperation through the exchange of counterterrorism experience, refinement of counterterrorism drills and procedures, and the development of interoperability between the two forces.

US officials have described Inspired Gambit as adding a new dimension to defence ties between the two countries, underlining the importance of sustained military-to-military engagement in addressing shared security concerns.

The joint training reflects the enduring defence partnership between Pakistan and the US and their continued cooperation in promoting regional security and stability.
