Ducky Bhai didn’t appear in court hearing on gambling app promotion case
A hearing was held in the Lahore District Court on a petition filed against YouTuber Saad-ur-Rehman, alias Ducky Bhai and other accused on charges of promoting a gambling app on Friday.
In the court of Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo, the accused could not be indicted due to Saad-ur-Rehman’s illness.
During the hearing, Saad-ur-Rehman’s lawyer, Barrister Amrit Sheikh, took the position that Ducky Bhai is ill, so his attendance should be excused.
The court has accepted the application of the accused for exemption from attendance.
While the other accused, Subhan Sharif and Asad Nadeem, appeared in the court and completed their attendance.
The court summoned YouTuber Saad-ur-Rehman, aka Ducky Bhai, and other accused on formal charges in a case related to promoting gambling apps.
The instructions were issued during the hearing conducted by Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo on Jan 3.
During proceedings, the court observed that vlogging on a YouTube channel without prior permission was illegal, and any such activity should have been preceded by a formal request to the court.
The magistrate emphasised that for any matter under trial, only the court can grant permission.
Ducky Bhai’s lawyer argued that they were unsure what permission was required and maintained that his client had not been vlogging on his channel.
The court countered that an affidavit submitted in a previous hearing could not be considered as legal permission and questioned how an individual could grant permission to themselves.
The court further stated that Saad-ur-Rehman’s YouTube channel is currently part of the case property, and uploading videos from it would be considered illegal.
The accused, however, may continue vlogging, but not on the disputed channel.
The prosecution expressed concerns regarding the vlogging activities during the hearing.
The court adjourned the case until January 16 for further proceedings, when charges will formally be read against the defendants.
The accused, including Ducky Bhai and his wife Aroob Jatoi, appeared in court earlier, and copies of the challan were given to them.
