The Judicial Commission of Pakistan on Thursday approved the confirmation of 11 additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC), according to an official statement issued after its meeting.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi in Islamabad, also granted a six-month extension to LHC additional judge Tariq Mahmood Bajwa, sources said.

The commission approved the permanency of Justice Hasan Nawaz and Justice Malik Waqar Haider, as well as Justice Sardar Akbar Ali and Justice Syed Ahsan Raza.

Sources said Justice Malik Javed Iqbal, Justice Muhammad Jawad Zafar, and Justice Khalid Ishaq were also confirmed.

In addition, the commission approved the confirmation of Justice Malik Muhammad Owais Khalid and Justice Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood, along with Justice Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh and Justice Abhar Gul, sources added.

However, the commission did not approve the confirmation of LHC additional judge Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan.

The development follows decisions taken in recent meetings of the JCP.

A day earlier, the commission approved the confirmation of six additional judges of the Peshawar High Court and extended the tenure of four others.

Earlier, it had also approved the confirmation of three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court.
