Woman held in chains in DHA flat freed by Karachi police

Police launch manhunt for former husband and accomplice

Police in Karachi rescued a woman who was found chained inside a flat in the Defence Phase 5 area following an alert from area residents on Sunday.

According to authorities, the woman, a resident of Shireen Jinnah Colony, was being held in a room on the third floor of the building, bound with chains.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman’s former husband lured her to the flat under the pretext of discussing child-related expenses and, with the help of an accomplice, restrained her with chains before fleeing the scene.

The victim told police that she has three children and that her divorce proceedings are currently pending in court.

She stated that issues relating to the custody and maintenance of children had already been settled outside the court.

Despite their separation, the former husband reportedly contacted her again under the guise of resolving financial matters and arranged the meeting, where she was confined.

Police said that neighbours alerted authorities after noticing suspicious activity at the building.

A police team arrived at the scene, entered the flat, and freed the woman. A case has since been registered based on her complaint.

Authorities said that police were conducting raids to arrest the main suspect, Latif, and his accomplice Aman.

An investigation into the incident has been launched and efforts were being made to bring the suspects to justice.
