At least six people, including a woman, were killed when the roof of a mud-built room collapsed in Shabqadar tehsil of Charsadda district, officials said on Sunday.

According to rescue authorities, the incident occurred at a house where the roof of a room suddenly caved in, trapping occupants under the debris.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene and carried out an operation to retrieve the victims. A rescue spokesperson said that most of those killed were children, with ages ranging between seven and 15 years.

Local sources said the house belonged to the late Fazal Dad and that a wedding ceremony was scheduled to take place there the same day.

The tragic incident turned what was meant to be a celebration into a scene of mourning.

Police and rescue officials have begun collecting further details about the incident.

The bodies were handed over to the families after completion of the necessary legal formalities.
