First winter rain intensifies cold in Karachi
The intensity of cold weather increased in Karachi on Wednesday following the city’s first winter rain.
Drizzle and light rain were recorded last night in several areas, including Saddar, Jail Road, I.I. Chundrigar Road, DHA, Gulberg, Gurumandir, Lyari, PIDC, Sharea Faisal, Korangi, Old City Area, North Karachi, Malir, Buffer Zone, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area and Landhi.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), light rain and intermittent drizzle are expected in Karachi on Wednesday night and Thursday as well, which may lead to a further drop in temperature.
Meanwhile, rain and snowfall continued across various parts of the country, intensifying the cold, particularly in northern and hilly regions.
In Neelum Valley, intermittent light to heavy snowfall is ongoing in Jagran, Upper Neelum, Sharda, Arang Kel, Gurez and Taobat.
Snowfall has also made roads slippery in Azad Kashmir and other adjoining areas.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, snowfall continued in Chilas, Babusar Top, Nanga Parbat and Batogah Top.
The upper areas of North and South Waziristan have also experienced snowfall and rain, making the weather colder.
Several areas of Balochistan, including Chaman, Hub, Winder, Pishin, Ziarat and Muslim Bagh, are receiving intermittent rainfall.
Heavy rain in Quetta, Gwadar and Jiwani has caused flooding in streams and low-lying areas.
Ziarat and Toba Achakzai have been covered in a thick blanket of snow.
Rain has also been reported in other parts of Sindh, including Larkana and Shikarpur, where the cold has intensified.
In the Orakzai district, many areas have been experiencing intermittent snowfall for several hours.
The PMD has forecast rain and snowfall in upper Punjab until January 2, while nationwide cold conditions are expected to persist as the current weather system continued to affect different regions.
